Online English course for beginners at About.com

June 26, 2007  on Free English courses

People who arrive at About’s English portal for the first time may feel a little lost, such is the amount of information available. So if you’re a beginner, this email / online English course is a great way to get started: it’s both a study guide and a collection of links that will guide you to the right places in the About site. Each week you get a new message with an introduction by Kenneth Beare, the course creator, followed by that week’s topics and links to the lessons.

Here’s the course outline:

Unit 1 - Building Blocks: Basics, ABC’s, Numbers
Unit 2 - Family, Time, Prices and the IPA
Unit 3 - Simple Present, Countable and Uncountable, This, That, These and Those, Some and Any
Unit 4 - Present Progressive, Adjectives, Prepositions Listening Exercises
Unit 5 - Past Forms, A, An and The, Listening Comprehension
Unit 6 - Usage of in / at / on , Adverbs
Unit 7 - Future with Will, The Weather, Listening Comprehension
Unit 8 - Review, Ordering Food in a Restaurant

The course is entirely in English and some parts include audio files and others don’t. You may want to use an online dictionary or translator to help you as you go along. Very nice not only for beginners but also for those who would like a good review of the basics.
