English mp3 Here’s another amazing website for reading and listening practice: Elllo has a huge archive of English mp3 audio in interview and conversation format, always with the corresponding transcripts available. In the homepage you can see that the number of lessons is approaching 800, and clicking on 2005 Index and 2004 Index there’s even more. Most of the lessons have also conprehension exercises - in recent ones you’ll even find PDF worksheets, a great resource for teachers who have access to the Internet in the classroom.

Another great thing is that you’ll also be able to practice listening offline: just save the mp3 files to your computers or load them toyour mp3 player. Most programs are for intermediate levels and above, but if your a ‘high beginner’, click on High Beginner (at the Levels Page).

A final note: Elllo makes lessons in several different English accents - you can see the flags indicating the country of the speaker in the archive lists.

Talk English: hundreds of phrases and dialogs with audio for every situation you can imagine (must see)

Talk English works like an online English guide for students who need to know what (and how) to say in specific situations. Warning: it only works with Internet Explorer and you need to register (free). With several hundreds of phrases and dialogs in audio, one of the coolest things is that the lesson index is very well organized making it really easy to find what you’re looking for.

Each topic is further split into subtopics and themes. In the Interview section, for example, each audio file corresponds to a possible answer to an interview question. You’ll find stuff for all kinds of situations: shopping, meeting the girlfriend’s parents, calling in sick, catching a cold and so on. Although it’s necessary to pay for site-wide access (US$ 49 for three months), there are probably over a hundred audio lessons freely available. Just pick your topic on the top menu (English for Beginners, Practical English, Telephone English, etc) and look for the free files - they’re always at the top of the list of results.

One thing that’s great about this website is that there are really specific sections such as Travel, Banking and Accounting. In the pronunciation area, several words and expressions come with an individual audio file. Recommended for basic and intermediate English students.
